Why We Here at Advocate Fiduciary Services Love Being Licensed Private Fiduciaries

Last Updated 12/16/2021

In our day-to-day lives, we often get the question, “Why did you choose to go into the fiduciary business?” More specifically, we’re asked what drives our passion. We here at Advocate Fiduciary love being a licensed private fiduciary because we get to make a difference in someone’s life

In our line of work, no day is the same. We’re constantly learning. It never feels stale. We never walk into the building and think the day is going to be the same as every other day.

The sad truth is that some people don’t have anyone and our work makes their lives a little bit better.

Oftentimes we see family members get involved in fiduciary matters, as they believe hiring a professional service like ours costs too much. However, by definition, we make sure that people’s end-of-life wishes are met and that their end-of-life experience is one of high quality. We pride ourselves on the work we do to get assets handed over to beneficiaries and heirs and in a much quicker turnaround time than a family member could. We also pride ourselves on the knowledge we have in areas such as property sales, dealing with conflict, making end of life decisions, and maximizing the payout to beneficiaries.

We also believe we are doing our part in keeping families together. We’ve seen situations where families can become torn apart by internal disagreements when handling affairs regarding the estate. If an individual hires us, the family can get angry at us for carrying out that individual’s wishes rather than getting angry with one another. We make those decisions so family members can continue to get along and enjoy the holidays together. The loss of a loved one is hard enough without losing additional loved ones through these types of disagreements.

The area we serve has a population of 50,000 people. Sun City, a retirement community within our coverage area, is 35 percent occupied by individuals 55 and over. We feel as though we’ve done a lot of good to help the people in that community, including hosting presentations to explain fiduciary services, as well as topics such as elder financial abuse, estate planning, and prevention of falling into a public guardianship.

We work closely with law enforcement, adult protective services, the district attorney’s office, elder care, medical professionals, and individuals from pretty much all walks of life. We are very well connected and we have to be because our job is to step into someone’s shoes and manage his or her life. No matter who that individual is, those are big shoes to fill.
